Way Down in Bowling Green…
When we were in Evansville, my sister, Nolan, and I took a trip to Bowling Green, KY. Bowling Green is very special to me. This is where I lived for 4 fabulous years, while I went to school at Western Kentucky University (Go Tops!). This is also where Adam & I met. I love Bowling Green and think of it and all of the memories I made there often.
While we were there we stayed with my cousin, Angela, her husband Billy, and my cousin Paige. They live in a cute little house, set far from the road and surrounded by trees. It feels like it is in the middle of nowhere (In a good way).
We met up with my Aunt Jayne at her house late in the afternoon. We let Nolan run around in the yard, while the 3 of us caught up on what’s been going on in our lives (I tried to be in the convo as much as Nolan allowed me!). Then my Uncle Tony came home and got to see Nolan and play around in the yard with him for a bit. We had plans to go to dinner and I knew Nolan wouldn’t allow me to talk much, so Angela offered to take Nolan to a Hot Rods minor legue baseball game with her and Billy. I jumped at the offer, and was glad I did. It worked out well. Angela said Nolan was great at the game. He even fell asleep in Billy’s lap for a long time. It was also nice for them to get to know him better.
So, Tony, Jayne, Whitney, and I went to Rafferty’s (one of my all time favorites and where Adam worked while in BG). We were seated on the deck and it was a perfect night for it. The food was delicious and spending time with Tony & Jayne was wonderful. We shared a lot of laughs, especially about Tony’s parasailing incident (scariest/funniest story ever!). Afterwards, we went back to their house and talked some more before leaving. I hadn’t had a chance to spend that much time with them in awhile (maybe since I lived there - ?). It was such a good time and I wish we were able to see them more often. We love you both very much.
When we got back to Angela’s, she already had Nolan in bed. They filled us in on the events from the baseball game and then we sat around and talked forever. Poor Paige had to work in the morning and we had her up with us really late! In the morning, we did some more talking and hanging out before we got out of the house. We made a trip the the Great American Donut Shop, they have the best apple fritters. Then we made plans to meet up with Jennie, my old manager from Express, and Erica, another one of my managers from Express, and their babies!
We met for lunch at Mariah’s. We had Nolan, Jennie had her girls, Mia & Laila, and Erica had her little man, Chase. It was a lot of fun and really crazy! After lunch we went back to Jennie & Leslie’s (she was also my manager at Express!) children’s store, The Polka Dot Door. We hung out there for awhile and talked, as much as our kids would let us. It was great seeing all of them and I really wish I got to see them more.
After leaving the store, we met up with Angela and Billy at WKU’s campus. I really wanted to pick up a new t-shirt for Nolan, and Adam & I wanted a tee for ourselves too. We didn’t really walk around campus, but just by driving around we could see the MANY changes they have made. I was shocked by how different it all looked. After I finished our shopping, we said our goodbyes and headed back to Evansville.
I am so glad we visited and only wish we had more time there. I miss all of you we got to see and those of you we didn’t get to see. I hope we make it down again soon.
Bowling Green - The Everly Brothers
Way down in Bowling Green
Prettiest girls I’ve ever seen
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
To live down in Bowling Green
Bowling Green folks treat you kind
They let you think your own mind
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
In Bowling Green you walk your own line
Kentucky sunshine makes the heart unfold
It warms the body
And I know it touches the soul
Bluegrass is fine
Kentucky owns my mind
The fields down in Bowling Green
Have the softest grass i’ve ever seen
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
To lie down in Bowling Green
Bowling Green girls treat you right
They wear dresses cut country tight
A man in Kentucky
Sure is lucky
If he’s seen the Bowling Green light
Kentucky sunshine makes the heart unfold
It warms the body
And I know it touches the soul
Bluegrass is fine
Kentucky owns my mind
Bowling Green Bowling Green
Bowling Green Bowling Green
Bowling Green Bowling Green
Bowling Green Bowling Green
